Thinking Healthy is another important
aspect of maintaining a healthy lifestyle that we should be incorporating into
our daily living. Having a positive attitude is an important factor in the way
we handle day to day challenges especially when we speak to people or have
difficult decisions to make. A positive attitude is great way to reduce stress
and brightens up the day of many people you meet. As well, students who have a
positive attitude make time for themselves and others, show respect to
themselves as well as others and tackle the day with a smile on their face.
Personally, I try to have positive thoughts, greet people with a smile, help
others in any way I can and take some time to do something I enjoy. All this
makes me feel good and gives me a great sense of happiness. Can you make a list
of things you do to think healthy? Can you remember the last time you made
yourself and/or others feel good? What did you do?
Hello everyone and welcome to our class blog on how to maintain a healthy body and healthy mind. This blog will be updated daily to keep you informed on the new and exciting material that we will be exploring throughout our unit.

Good Hygiene
Good
Hygiene is another important aspect of maintaining a healthy lifestyle that we
should be incorporating into our daily living. Personal grooming is a very important
part of your daily routine in maintaining good hygiene. When you wake up in the
morning, your day should begin by washing, brushing and making sure you have clean
clothes to wear. This includes making sure your hair is clean and brushed, you
have fresh, clean clothes to wear and once you have eaten a healthy breakfast,
you brush your teeth. Although it may be difficult to remember all these tasks,
you can create a daily schedule or list to remind yourself of all these tasks.
At an early age, I created a card to list all my personal hygiene tasks which I
had to do before going to school. After many years of using my card, I was able
to automatically remember all these important tasks I had to do. Now, I get
ready for class without even thinking about it. Have you created a list of
things you should do to promote good hygiene before starting your day? If so,
what does your list include?

Physical Activity
Physical
Activity is another important aspect of maintaining a healthy lifestyle that we
should be incorporating into our daily living. Reaching a minimum of sixty
minutes of easy to hard exercise is a great goal to reach daily. Of course, you
can easily do this while having fun. Moderate exercise like swimming, walking
or bike riding is more relaxing whereas playing soccer or hockey requires more
energy. All of these are great ways to keep active and have fun, all while
maintaining a healthy body and mind. I personally start my day by doing
moderate activities such as walking or bike riding to our school. You may have
noticed me during the day walking around the classroom or at recess/ lunch,
walking around the playground. This shows I am doing moderate physical
activity. In the evening, I enjoy running on my treadmill or playing soccer
with friends which requires more body energy. What types of physical activity
did you do today? Was it moderate or where they activities that required more
energy? Did you have fun?

Healthy Eating Choices
Healthy Eating Choices is just one of the
many important aspects of keeping yourself healthy both physically and
mentally. I feel that choosing foods from Canada’s Food Guide and avoiding junk
food is really important when you are hungry and want to eat. Choosing foods
which are high in fat or sugar can affect the way your body works and the way
you mind works. This is why it is important to choose foods from the four food
groups which include grain products, vegetables and fruits, milk and
alternatives and meat and alternatives as a guide for healthy living. For
example, this morning I chose whole grain cereal with skim milk, whole wheat bread
along with yogurt and orange juice. For lunch, I had a ham and lettuce sandwich
on whole wheat bread, an apple and a cold glass of skim milk. Later, I enjoyed
some baked fish with steamed vegetables, a side of rice and a glass of water
for dinner. As you will notice, you can find these items on Canada’s Food Guide.
Remember there are plenty of choices to pick from. Did you eat any of the items
from Canada’s Food Guide when you had breakfast, lunch or dinner today?
